Hydro-Jetting: What to Expect During the Process

Hydro jet plumbing uses pressurized water to clear your pipes of any blockages. It consists of a special hose and spray nozzle that fits into your drain lines, shooting water at high pressures through the pipes to scour the interior walls.

Hydro-Jetting: What to Expect During the Process

Hydro-jetting is powerful enough that it can wash away years of buildup, from grease and hair to tree roots. But it’s not only good for cleaning blocked pipes: it’s also a great form of preventative care. It’s recommended annually for businesses, and every 2–3 years for private homes. This method works better than other plumbing tools, such as a drain snake. While those tools force a hole through blockages, they can still leave debris in your pipes. Hydro-jetting is superior in that it leaves nothing behind.

The Hydro-Jetting Process

During the process, your plumber will first use a camera to inspect your pipes and identify any blockages or problem areas. Once the initial inspection is complete, the equipment will be set up at the access point chosen by your plumber.

The hose will then be fed into your drain, where the rotating jets will work to break apart any sludge or debris. If you’re having work done on a smaller drain such as a kitchen, this may only take a few minutes. If it’s a longer drain or a main sewer line, this could mean cleaning over 100 feet of pipe, which will take longer.

When the scouring process is complete, your plumber will conduct another camera inspection. If you had a blockage, this will confirm that it has been dissolved. If your goal was routine cleaning or maintenance, you’ll be able to see your now-pristine pipes!
